Asuntohotelli / Hostel Aallon Maja is a small hostel with 12 - 14 rooms for up to 50 persons. 400 meters from the hotel we have two suites/apartments (an old bank and an old drug store!) for groups and families of 4 - 7 persons each. In the hostel we have TV in every room, separate shower rooms for men and women, 2 saunas, self service kitchens, wireless Internet (ADSL, WLAN and LAN), a big conference room etc. In the basement we have Art Café Aino, which has permanent art exhibition of our own and many exhibitions of different artist every year.
On the property of our hotel we "found" again an old bomb shellter under the earth in a cave! We will build there Kulttuuriluola (= Culture Cave) which will be an exhibition and performance space for artists.
15 km from the hotel we have a river side property of our own. We will build there some roads, cottages etc., so, it will be suitable for fishermen and nature people.

Nearby attractions and activities:

The Sunila industrial and resedence area is designed by Alvar Aalto, the most famous architect in Finland ever! The building of Aallon Maja, too! It has been a loundry and sauna house from 1937 to 1987 when they started to build hotel rooms uppstairs. The hotel has been empty for allmost 10 years. We started it again on 2003 and now our hostel is open every day all over the year.
In the city of Kotka you can find many cultural activities, the sea and river for fishing, Maretarium (sea aquarium) etc. Please, look at www.kotka.fi and there English pages. Only 18 km from our hostel is the city of Hamina, which is worth to see, too.

Directions:

Hostel Aallon Maja is located in Sunila (Kotka), Finland. It is 130 km from Helsinki to the East and only 70 km from the Russian border. You can find our place when you turn from Helsinki - Hamina high way in Karhula (after Karhula canjon to Hamina direction or before Karhula when you arrive from Hamina direction) to "Anjala, Halla, Sunila" and then drive 2 km to "Halla, Sunila" and then turn to the right to Sunila. After 500 meters you arrive to T cross and there we are on the right!
